Local Outreach
We are not alone on the hill, but part of a community. Our community is one of faith and friendship—we connect with other Episcopalian churches in the town and region through shared worship, youth groups and, especially outreach. We are connected to the local community, as a place of beauty and spiritual renewal, with a Labyrinth, Prayer Walk and trails to the Larsen Sanctuary. We host a playground, preschool, and community garden.
We cook and serve dinner to the hungry, support shelter for the homeless, gather food and clothing for food banks, and share resources with Bridgeport Area Council of Churches, Bridgeport Youth Mission (BAYM), and are a founding member of a yet-to-named faith-based community organization including churches and synagogues from New Haven to Norwalk. Local outreach and mission: we are part of one body because we share in the one bread and live on the one earth. Contact Barry Averill, Meg Kuhn, or Lili Whitmer to get involved.
Global Outreach
We are a small church on a side road, but from here we reach out to the world. We are committed to doing our part toward advancing the U.N. sponsored and Episcopal Church supported Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). Our MDG Team works on a number of projects: We have started an award winning elementary school library in the Philippines. We have walked with other area Episcopal churches to build class rooms, buy computers and provide food and scholarships for a school in Haiti. We have a companion relationship with Episcopal parishes in Colombia (in Cartagena and Malombo). We support our friend Bela Benon in his seminary and farm in Tanzanaia.
Contact Gene Kenny, Elen Hinckley or Ginny Worcester to get involved.
Father Calkins gathered with people on the Prayer Walk. For those who would like to do this on a day by themselves, there is a guide booklet available from the office, or at the Prayer Grove.
It is a place of quiet contemplation, and thought — closer to God.
